Overview

Julia Sugarbaker, Mary Jo Shively, Charlene Frazier-Stillfield and Suzanne Sugarbaker are associates at their design firm, Sugarbaker and Associates. Julia is the owner and is very outspoken and strong-willed. Mary Jo is a divorced single-parent whom is just as strong-willed as Julia, but isn't as self-confident. Charlene is the naive and trusting farm girl from Poplar Bluff, Missouri. Suzanne is the self-centered ex-beauty queen whom has a number of wealthy ex-husbands.

Caring, the ‘glue’ for the team, great at reading situations, genuinely tunes into people, quiet, introspective but at the heart of what’s going on, laid back, flexible, patient, kindly, creative, artistic.

Not their forte

Dislike conflict or fast-paced environments with no time to reflect, don’t like to upset people so may passively agree, difficult to know, behind the scenes, not a planner or organised, lives for the moment.

Built to manage, create a plan, marshal the troops and drive for closure, brings clarity and order, strong work ethic, determined, detailed, factual, process-driven, traditional, brings discipline.

Not their forte

New initiatives, they prefer the ‘tried and tested,’ ‘let’s just see’ would irritate them, they need a plan, clear communicator but can be very blunt, competitive, need to control, not creative or ideas driven.

Can be controlling in their need to support, can be sensitive to criticism, see things in ‘black and white,’ like to be liked and needed, wants to jump in immediately, not reflective, can resist change.

Going slow and steady, taking a back seat, not having a strong opinion, confrontational to get it moving, direct to the point of bone-jarring, needs the challenge of something new, need to lead.
